You are not incognito

Modern web browsers now have an 'incognito' mode, which tells you... that
you can do some private surfing, should you want to.  However, all is not as it seems.

Any incognito mode is not really private at all.  It might help if you are using a shared computer, so people can't access your local history or searches, but your ISP, search engines, websites and governments can still see what you're doing.

And that's fine, as long as you are aware

So please be aware that if you're using an incognito mode (or whatever else people call it, private, hidden or invismode), your footprints are all over the internet in logs stored on someone else's servers.

Of course, there are ways to make yourself really incognito, but we'll cover that another time.

For now though, use an ad blocker in your browser (ublock origin is great), use a good secure browser (Opera is a great choice) and use a private search engine like StartPage or DuckDuckGo.  But most importantly, stay sharp and be aware of what you are clicking!
